Types of joints
There are six types of freely movable (synovial) joints:
1)Ball and socket joint.2)Hinge joint.
3)Pivot joint.
4)Saddle joint.
5)Gliding joint.
6)Condyloid joint.
Ball and socket joint. This is a ball-and-socket joint type of synovial joint in which the ball-shaped surface of one rounded bone fits into the cup-like depression of another bone.
Examples include your shoulder joint and your hip joint.
Hinge joint.
A hinge joint is a type of synovial joint that exists in the body and serves to allow motion primarily in one plane.
Examples include your elbow joint and your knee joint
Pivot joint.Pivot joint is a synovial joint in which the ends of two bones connect.
Examples are the joints between your radius and ulna bones that rotate your forearm, and the joint between the first and second vertebrae in your neck.
Saddle joint.A saddle joint is a type of synovial joint in which the opposing surfaces are reciprocally concave and convex.
saddle joint does not allow rotation
Gliding joint. he gliding joint is a synovial joint built between two bones that meet on flat articular surfaces allowing sliding or gliding motion.
example your wrist.
Condyloid joint. A condyloid joint also called condylar , ellipsoidal, or bicondylar joint is an ovoid articular surface, or condyle that is received into an elliptical cavity.
Examples include your finger joints and your jaw.
